Ken Shamrock: UFC should not let Jon Jones dictate terms, I have a problem with Hulk Hogan critics, People need to stop trashing Vince McMahon
UFC should not let Jon Jones dictate terms
“It just feels like you should not ever let a world champion be able to dictate terms.
“Even though you may have earned it, there’s still guys that are coming up that may be able to accomplish more than what he’s done but they’re not gonna get that chance.
“If I was in his spot I’d be doing the same thing, if they’re giving me that opportunity to be able to control who I fight next. I’m gonna do that. But it is up to the organization to hold everybody accountable.
“Obviously, someone with his status, or other people who have had that status, have a little leeway of things that they can control. But when it comes to fighting guys who are moving up, who deserve the opportunity. That should never be in question.”
I have a problem with Hulk Hogan critics
“I just have a hard time when someone who has created and helped build an organization so much, and has been the elite of the elite when it comes to sales and marketing. And people became famous because of that individual, Hogan.
“It’s just hard for me to see people turn on him like that.
“I don’t know him personally, I’ve been around people that have been around him. I just have a problem when people turn on somebody who’s been so impactful on organizations.”
People need to stop trashing Vince McMahon
“Vince gave me an opportunity and I was able to really put myself right in the mix with all of it in a short amount of time. But it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t get the opportunity.
“And so, when I look at what Vince has done for countless people, and then see half of them, or more than that, turn on him, even though he may be wrong.
“He may have done whatever, I don’t even know, because I don’t get into it. I don’t want to.
“But he didn’t kill anybody. As far as I know, he didn’t ruin anybody’s life. He actually gave people more opportunities to be successful than probably any individual that I know.
“You may not agree with him. You may not like what he’s done. But you don’t have to be vocal. You don’t have to go out there and trash the guy – the one that gave you that opportunity.”
Keep emotions out of the WWE Hall of Fame
“There’s always people that are left out [of the Hall of Fame] that a lot of the fan base believe should be in.
“But for whatever reason it doesn’t happen – and I believe this is because it’s human beings that are the ones making the judgments instead of AI, or some computer, or something like that that can sift through all of the information and keep emotions out of it. And literally just [base the decision on] the contributions.
“Right now it is what it is. It’s not like people are specifically targeting me or targeting anybody else. It’s just the way things work out.
“But I’m owed nothing. My career is what it is. And the one thing that I took from it was that in my heart, my mind, I believe that I left [WWE] a better place with my contributions. And for me that’s enough.”
Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan have ‘no Freestyle Wrestling experience’
“If it’s Bischoff and Hogan, and if this is legit, neither one of those guys have any experience with that [freestyle wrestling]. Maybe they’ve got somebody involved that has, but it would be interesting to see when the actual event happens.
“Because neither one of those guys have ever been in a fight before, it’s not a knock on them. I’m just saying, how do you put something together that you haven’t experienced before? Not saying it’s not possible. But it’d be very interesting, and if they do [have success] congratulations. I think it’s about time that we put some legitimacy behind wrestling.
“It will be very interesting to see if Bischoff or Hogan come up with something that’s more of a shoot style. I guess. I haven’t heard or know exactly what they’re doing, but if that is the case, we’ll get to see whether or not the actual fan base is ready for that.”
Freestyle wrestling rules remove exciting part of wrestling
“You have to extend the rules so it’s more like professional wrestling, like being able to throw people over their head. And the wrestlers have to protect themselves instead of the rules protecting them.
“[The rules of freestyle wrestling would] keep them from being able to do these explosive throws with legs going over the head. And these chin locks and different things that you’re able to use to be able to turn opponents, or even even throwing with different chin locks and face locks.
“Neck cranks, things of that nature that are eliminated. And to me, you’re taking away the exciting part of wrestling – putting people in positions that are very uncomfortable.”
