I recently did a post about the joys of Wii boxing for fitness and weight loss and all things wholesome.
Iβve been asked a few questions about how the controls work so here you go (Iβll make a video soon too)
For people who are right handed (reverse if you are a lefty)
Stance
- Proper boxing stance, would be to be side on β with your left foot forwards β itβs a bit more square on in Muay Thai and MMA so donβt worry about it too much if it impacts your ability to throw a right punch and get the Wii to recognise it
- Hold the nunchucks veritcally
Punches
- Left jab β straight left punch β stick your left hand out straight
- Right Cross β straight punch with right hand β put your right hand out towards the screen β twist on your back foot for proper technique for boxing β with heel rotating outwards towards the right
- Left Hook β Curl your arm a bit/bend at elbow β and throw the left hand from left to right
- Right Hook β bend your right elbow β keep it bent and throw right hand from right to left
- Uppercuts β with either hand β lower hand down and bring it straight up with a bent arm
- Wait until one punch is finished. You can jab quite quickly but other punches are slow
Blocks
- Hands close to the face blocks face punches
- Lower the controllers to your tummy to block lower punches β hold them down β parallel to the ground
- Lean back (with the controls) to βlay backβ out of range
Tips
- Move side to side until the opponent punches (and misses) and then counter with a jab and then an uppercut
- Jabs work best β throw one or two jabs before an uppercut, hook, or cross
- The more punches you throw in a row before knocking down an opponent, the less likely they are to get up
Punches are shown below β in case you are not sure what punch is which β
Jab β
Cross with a straight right punch if you are in orthodox (right handed/most common) stance
Hooks come from the side with a bent arm
Uppercuts come from down low
